C\u00e9cile McLorin Salvant, is a composer, singer, and visual artist. The late opera singer Jessye Norman described Salvant as \u201ca unique voice supported by an intelligence and full-fledged musicality, which light up every note she sings.\u201d <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Salvant has developed a passion for storytelling and finding the connections between vaudeville, blues, folk traditions from around the world, theatre, jazz, and baroque music. She has received Grammys\u00ae for Best Jazz Vocal Album for three consecutive albums, <\/span>The Window<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Dreams and Daggers<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>For One to Love<\/span><\/i>, and was nominated for the award in 2014 for her album <\/span>WomanChild<\/span><\/i>. Salvant\u2019s latest work, <\/span>M\u00e9lusine<\/span><\/i>, is a mix of five originals and interpretations of nine songs, dating as far back as the 12th century, mostly sung in French along with Occitan, English, and Haitian Krey\u00f2l. They tell the folk tale of M\u00e9lusine, a woman who turns into a half-snake each Saturday after a childhood curse by her mother. M\u00e9lusine agrees to marry Raymondin on the condition that he never sees her on Saturdays. He agrees but is later convinced by his brother to break his promise, piercing his wife\u2019s door with a sword and finding her naked in the bath, half snake, half woman. Delfeayo Marsalis<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As an acclaimed trombonist, composer, and producer, Delfeayo Marsalis has also dedicated his prolific career to music theatre and education. A member of the Marsalis family of musicians, including his father Ellis, the artist was destined to a life in music.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the age of 17, Marsalis began his career as a producer and has, to date, produced more than 130 recordings, garnering one Grammy\u00ae and several nominations. In 2000, he formed the Uptown Music Theatre, a non-profit organization that empowers New Orleans youth through dramatic arts training. He has written 18 musicals and composed more than 100 songs that help introduce kids to jazz through musical theatre. His Swinging with the Cool School \u201csoft introduction to jazz\u201d workshops have reached more than 7,500 students nationally.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
