About the Event

Join Daniel Baudendistel, a celebrated dancer and member of the faculty at The School of Ballet Arizona, as he demonstrates the collaborative nature of dance and movement. This 90-minute, interactive demonstration will showcase Baudendistel’s experience working with Joffrey Ballet in Gerald Arpino’s Light Rain and how he is revisiting that learning to pass onto a new generation of dancers. Baudendistel will be dancing with his partner, Valerie Madonia, and dancers Katherine Loxtercamp and Ethan Price. The presentation will include both video of the original work and live performance.

“What I came to understand after being in the company for a while was that Arpino’s “style” was really about collaboration. When he was working on a ballet, the dancers were encouraged to come up with movements, and when he saw something he liked, he would put that into the ballet. It was fun but also rewarding to have your ideas embraced.” — Daniel Baudendistel
