About the Event
Taking the Wheel, Damon J Bolling’s first cabaret performance, is a journey of love and determination through the decades. Bolling will explore love, love lost, and finding love all over again through some of his favorite songs in this intimate evening of stories and music that captures what it means to find strength and hope from the heart.
Damon J Bolling
For more than 30 years, Damon J Bolling has been fortunate enough to grace the stage and screen. The recipient of three ariZoni Theatre Awards of Excellence, Bolling has acted and directed with numerous Valley theaters, including Black Theatre Troupe, Theater Works, Phoenix Theatre Company, Arizona Theatre Company, Fountain Hills Theater, Desert Stages Theatre, Greasepaint Youtheatre, and Desert Foothills Theater. Always a proponent of social and cultural responsibility, Bolling has been an advocate of storytelling through art by breaking down barriers and disrupting the status quo.
United Colours of Arizona Theatre
Founded in 2016, United Colours of Arizona Theatre began with a Facebook group attempting to create space for BIPOC individuals to convene, network, learn, and thrive within the local fine arts community. The members of United Colours of Arizona Theatre unequivocally support all social justice initiatives, and as ARTivists, their mission is to encourage a more equitable landscape within the local theatre community by creating opportunities for workshops, dance classes, audition prep, and more.
With the communities it serves, United Colours of Arizona Theatre has come to realize there is a lack of access to formal dance training, classical theatre training, and vocal lessons. The organization’s initiative fills in that gap by providing workshops to help BIPOC creatives feel prepared in and out of the audition room. The goal is to create a theatre that truly reflects the community.
